I’m an amateur cook, pastry chef, animator, and an illustrator.

A few years ago, I discovered that I had Gluten sensitivity and dairy allergy.

In recent years I embraced a vegan lifestyle.

Therefore, I decided to create a blog that is all-

About

Hi everyone!

I’m Maayan, and I am the creator behind of ‘Lelo-Lelo’ blog. To help you get to know me better, let’s start from the very beginning, shall we?

Introduction

Since I was a mere three-year-old, I’ve adored cooking. I’d climb up on a stool and assist my mother in the kitchen, starting with simple tasks. As time went by, I spent countless hours in the kitchen alongside my grandmothers and aunts as their diligent little helper.

Cooking has always held a special place in my heart because it brought our family together, whether on Saturdays or holidays, with everyone gathering around the table. Always leaving with their bellies full of jelly, jolly and satisfied.

As the years passed, I began creating and inventing more complex and delicious dishes on my own. In 2012, I even pursued an extensive confectionery course at Estella, believing it was my true calling. Unfortunately, a hand injury forced me to set aside that dream not long after.

Turning Point

Around a decade ago, a revelation struck me—I have gluten sensitivity and a dairy allergy. It wasn’t long before this revelation led me to embrace a vegan lifestyle driven by health considerations and personal beliefs.

In the beginning, I faced quite a challenge as my food options became incredibly limited. The mere act of opening and closing the refrigerator intensified, accompanied by the growls of my hungry stomach.

For years, finding gluten-free and vegan options in restaurants and stores felt like embarking on a Mission Impossible, searching for a needle in a haystack.

Most of the time, my only choice seemed to be a simple salad. Sure, it’s healthy and all, but how much salad can one person eat?!

While the rest of the world reveled in delightful indulgences, I, the eternal guardian of salads, sat in the corner, offering my dubious reassurances, saying, “Fear not, my friends, feast upon your delights. It’s not so bad… Just another glorious encounter with my faithful companion, the salad”.

Once during a friend’s birthday party, the aroma of gluten-packed, cheesy pizzas filled the air. Suddenly, a look of horror crossed my friend’s face as they exclaimed, “Oh no, what will Maayan eat?!” With a chuckle, I swiftly replied, “No worries, just dial up the pizzeria and order a carton with toppings!”.

Behind the Blog's Name

The blog’s name, “Lelo-Lelo,” derives its charm from the Hebrew word “Lelo,” meaning “without” or “free from”.

As I embarked on my vegan and gluten-free journey, I couldn’t help but crack jokes about my culinary creations, claiming as I served them “It’s gluten-free, milk-free, egg-free… and basically just air… So enjoy!”.

Fortunately, we have nowadays more options available than we used to. Although these options can be pricier, harder to find, or sometimes leave us wondering what to prepare and how to prepare it.

There is still hope on the horizon! That’s precisely why I’ve employed my skills and combined my homegrown knowledge with my pastry chef experience and passion for inventing to craft tasty recipes from scratch.

I couldn’t keep these tasty recipes only to myself any longer, so I started this blog to share them with you. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy them, and may the joy of a full tummy bring a big smile to your face!

My Missions

Lelo-Lelo:

I realized that life goes by too fast, and it is essential to get the best out of it. That’s why I strive to create effortless recipes to prepare and provide you with efficient guidance. This way, you can savor delicious meals without spending hours in the kitchen and genuinely relish life’s joys.

Most recipes I created came to life during my four-year journey as an animation student in Jerusalem. Balancing studies with non-existing free time and sleep taught me the invaluable lesson of cherishing every moment and making the most of my time. Hence the importance of time.

Even during the most challenging times of my degree, I never stopped creating recipes and preparing meals daily. I refused to eat junk food. It was important for me to nourish my body with healthy food that helped me concentrate, survive and graduate.

Whether you’re a busy student, someone with limited free time, or any other wonderful person, I hope you find the recipes I have created delicious, helpful, and nutritious.

During my fourth and final year as a student, I found my life partner. In the end, thanks to his belief and support in me, I found the courage to embark on this blogging journey. And quietly behind the scenes, he also helps me with the site sometimes (in his spare time).

Waste-Free:

I would like to take part in helping the environment regarding the climate crisis, starting with the creation of vegan recipes.

Help nurture and grow the vegan community and show the meat industries that the demand for meat continues to decrease. In the hope that they will leave the farm animals alone, they deserve to live too!

Also, hopefully, as the vegan community grows, there will be a reduction in the deforestation involved in growing food for these poor animals.

This will be a space where I’ll openly discuss my fears and anxieties about the climate crisis and share ways of coping I’ve discovered along the way.

I hope to create a safe place for the community of people who feel like I do about climate change- to know they are not alone.

With a hopeful spirit, I aspire to uncover and share various approaches for making small but impactful changes in our daily lives to benefit the environment. Rest assured, you will be the first to be informed.

Stay in Touch!

Feel free to ask questions and offer suggestions for recipes you’d like to explore. Whether it’s a dish you haven’t savored in ages simply because it contains gluten and isn’t vegan, I’ll be here to assist and provide guidance to the best of my abilities.

I wholeheartedly welcome you to reach out and share your experiences or concerns about climate change. I’m here with open arms, ready to listen.

You are more than welcome to Suggest topics you’d like me to cover in the green corner Waste-Free, and I’ll do my best to address them in my upcoming posts.

Thank you for reading this far!
